The Jacobite Steam Train is widely regarded as one of the greatest railway journeys in the world, running 84 spectacular miles round-trip between Fort William and Mallaig along the West Highland Line through the heart of the Scottish Highlands. Operated by West Coast Railways using vintage steam locomotives, the journey takes passengers across the iconic 21-arch Glenfinnan Viaduct — made globally famous as the route of the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films — past the monument at Glenfinnan, alongside the shimmering waters of Loch Eilt, and through some of Britain's most remote and breathtaking landscapes. The train departs Fort William daily from April to October, offering both standard and first-class accommodation. At Mallaig, passengers enjoy a two-hour stop in this charming fishing port before the return journey. Advance booking is strongly recommended, as the service regularly sells out months ahead.
